Bay View Beach Residence, Wellfleet, MA

This five-bedroom home is located on a coastal dune overlooking Cape Cod Bay. The design consisted of comprehensive renovations and additions to a one-story 1960’s modern house. The existing thirty foot square footprint and foundation could not be altered except in the opposite direction of the water, as the original structure sat within the one hundred foot environmental conservation easement.

The sunscreen structure shades the two-story living space reducing heat gain, which eliminates air-conditioning and reduces energy consumption. Operable windows, sliding doors and skylights permit natural ventilation provided by the prevailing sea breezes to cool the house.
