Chestnut Hill Modern Renovation
Designed by mid-century modern architects Saltonstall & Morton, the building was originally constructed as a pool house on a large estate in the Chestnut Hill Historic District of Brookline.
A subdivision of the property allowed the current owners to purchase the building with the intent of converting it into a two-bedroom home. Working within the existing eight-foot structural grid, Hammer Architects created a new living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and bathrooms inside the existing shell.
The result is a compact 1,700 square foot residence with long lines of sight and large walls of glass that open to the refurbished pool, a large stone and wood patio and extensive landscaping.
