Modern Residence Indian Neck
This new four-bedroom vacation home is situated on a wooded hill overlooking a tidal marsh. The house is designed to carefully integrate into the natural landscape and to maximize views on the waterside while presenting a formal facade to the street. The living room wing is clearly articulated with a higher volume, clerestory windows and large sliding doors. Natural ventilation was the critical sustainable design concern, as the house is primarily occupied during the summer months. To eliminate the need for air-conditioning and reduce energy consumption, the overhanging roof shields the afternoon sun while the large view windows are oriented to permit ample ventilation.
