Antique Cape Cod Addition, Truro, MA
Located on a large wooded lot in the Pamet River Valley of Truro, Massachusetts, this project entailed an addition to a classic antique cape that has been in the family since the 1950s. The primary objective for the undertaking was to expand the home to provide generous family and entertaining space lacking within the small rooms in the original cottage.
Hammer Architects replaced an existing wing with an addition that essentially doubled the size of the home. The new design features a large family room, dining room and kitchen on the first floor, and a master bedroom suite above. A screened-in porch was added in the approximate location of the previous porch, creating a strong sense of connection with the past. Great care was taken to blend the new construction with the scale and historic character of the existing home.
